Meet Our Board Members

FMBA is a statewide organization with members throughout the state of Florida. Various FMBA events take place throughout the state on a monthly basis.
President

Zain Abidi is an attorney at Alma, a LegalTech startup developing AI-powered tools to streamline U.S. immigration processes for individuals, law firms, and employers.
Prior to joining Alma, Zain practiced as an Associate at Akerman LLP in Miami, where he advised Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, and startups on corporate immigration strategy and compliance. His practice included employment-based immigration matters such as H-1B, L-1, E-2, and O-1 visa classifications, PERM labor certifications, and I-9 compliance. Zain also handled immigration-related government investigation defense and provided immigration due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, helping clients manage mobility and compliance risks in complex corporate transactions.
Earlier in his career, Zain worked with several AmLaw 100 firms, gaining experience at the intersection of immigration law, business operations, and technology. He is recognized for his practical approach, regulatory insight, and ability to translate complex legal frameworks into business-oriented strategies.
Zain holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Miami School of Law, and is licensed to practice in Florida.

Vice President

Jose Ignacio Leon is a lifelong Miami resident and proud graduate of Florida International University, where he earned his degree in International Relations from the School of International and Public Affairs, followed by his Juris Doctor from the FIU College of Law.
Jose has been actively involved in the probate and guardianship community since 2010, with experience in both private practice and public service. After graduating from law school, he focused his career on estate planning, probate, and guardianship matters, ultimately founding his own law firm in 2016 to provide client-focused legal representation.
In addition to his practice, Jose served as a Supervising Attorney and Adjunct Professor in the FIU College of Law Clinical Program, where he guided law students in the areas of probate, guardianship, elder law, and special needs planning.
In 2022, Jose joined the Florida Probate & Family Law Firm through merger, where he now leads the Probate, Guardianship, Estate Planning, and Probate Litigation departments. He is committed to delivering compassionate, efficient, and knowledgeable representation to families navigating some of life’s most sensitive legal matters.

Secretary

Sonia Khan is an associate at Nelson Mullins’ Miami office and Commercial Litigation practice. She has experience as a law clerk at the state appellate and circuit court levels in the state of Florida. She has handled researching, reviewing evidence, and preparing legal recommendations for a wide array of civil and criminal legal matters in those courts. Sonia primarily focuses her practice on general, commercial, and corporate litigation.

Taghrid G. Hassan has been practicing law for nearly 20 years exclusively in the areas of family law and immigration. She has helped countless families immigrate to the United States and has assisted many to become US citizens. She has a passion for guiding families through the difficult process of divorce and separation to promote harmonious family relationships. She is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and has been appointed as guardian ad litem by the court in family and domestic violence cases. Ms. Hassan is admitted to practice law in Florida, New York and New Jersey, as well as US District Court of New Jersey and the Southern District of Florida. Ms. Hassan received her Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School. Ms. Hassan is one of the founding members of the Florida Muslim Bar Association and has spoken on many panels regarding diversity in the legal process and the enforceability of Islamic marriage contracts in US courts.

Jalal “Jay” Shehadeh is the Managing Partner at Shehadeh Giannamore, PLLC. He focuses his practice in the areas of real estate and banking. His prior experience includes serving as the Executive-Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Directors of U.S. Century Bank, a public Florida based bank. He also previously served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Florida. In addition to his legal career, Jalal and his brother/partner, Mohammad Shehadeh, have continued their family business of owning/operating gas stations, car washes and convenience stores throughout South Florida.

Jalal dedicates time to philanthropic activities, primarily related to the subject of Palestine-Israel. 
He is also a board member of the Palestinian American Bar Association (PABA) and the Coalition of South Florida Muslim Organizations (COSMOS).

Jalal grew up in Palestine from the age of 8 until he was 16. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, from Florida International University in 2009 with a Law Degree and from Florida International University in 2017 with a
Master’s of Law in Banking Regulations. Jalal currently lives in Coral Gables, FL with his wife, Katherine Shehadeh, and his two sons, Amir and Nasir.

Dunia A. Ibrahim is the managing partner at Brotman Nusbaum Ibrahim & Adelman. She
attended law school at Nova Southeastern University while working at a personal injury law firm.
During that time, Mrs. Ibrahim worked exclusively for people injured as a result of someone
else’s negligence. After graduating in 2003, Mrs. Ibrahim wanted to continue to be the voice of
those in need. Over the course of her career, Mrs. Ibrahim has devoted her practice to the areas
of personal injury and wrongful death cases and has handled thousands of automobile and truck
accidents, premises liability and products liability cases.
Mrs. Ibrahim grew up in Palestine. She graduated from University of Central Florida in 2001 with
a Bachelors degree in Legal Studies and earned her Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern
University in 2003. Mrs. Ibrahim currently lives in Delray Beach with her husband and daughter.
